Parents Needed: 4 Spots Available on School Site Council

Dear Dewey Parents,                                                                                                                                              

As part of our school plan, we encourage the involvement of parents and families in the education of their children. I would like to cordially invite you to serve as an important member of the School Site Council.                                                                                                               

This year, we need to elect  4  new parent members to the SSC for the upcoming 2026-2027

and 2027-2028 school year.                                                                                                                 

This council helps to decide how we can best meet the educational needs of the students.                                                                                

What does the SSC do?

The role of the school site council plays an important role in decision making. The SSC helps

to develop and monitor the school’s strategic plan. It evaluates program recommendations to

ensure that they support the strategic plan and the goals of Dewey Elementary students. In

addition, it votes on funding requests for materials and supplies for the Art, PE, and

technology department.

Who serves on the SSC?

 * SSC is a committee of elected parents and staff members.

* The SSC is made up of 10 voting members: the principal, 4 staff members and 5 parents.

* The parent community elects the parent members, and the staff elects staff members.

What is the time commitment to participate on the SSC?

 *The School Site Council meets approximately 4 or 5 times during the school year.

* Meetings are held Wednesday at 1:45 pm and last approximately 45 minutes in person.

 * Members of the SSC serve a term of 2 years and may be re-elected to serve again.
