Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I look forward to working with students of all grade levels this year in coding and robotics. We will focus on a different aspect of computer science in each cycle.
Cycle 1 will focus on Scratch, a block based programming language for kids. Students will learn computer science fundamentals through this block based language, building on their knowledge from previous years.
Cycle 2 will focus on Robotics. Kindergartners and 1st graders will focus on Lego bricks and analog, focusing on core concepts such as stacking and overlapping. 2nd and 3rd graders will learn to program WeDo 2.0 robots through a block based programming language that is similar to Scratch. 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will learn to program EV3 Lego Mindstorms, which is also programmed through a block based programming language similar to Scratch.
Cycle 3 will focus on Data for the younger students, and Minecraft for the older students. Kindergartners and 1st graders will learn about data and how it is stored, retrieved, and deleted. 2nd through 6th grade students will learn to program Minecraft using Microsoft Makecode.
